Porn & Pomme Frites

A.Star, A.Joy & Sarah K

It's Sunday night, the weekend is behind me, and I cannot wait for slumber. I was a whirlwind of activity the past few days and I must say it is beginning to catch up. But hey, I'm young, I can handle it... right?

Friday evening I attended a most unusual dual book launching at a cool lounge down in SoHo. It was a joint celebration; a friend had recently announced his decision to move to South America upon his completion of a short novel of stories he was publishing, and a good friend of his was also coming out with her new book as well. As bittersweet as it was for everyone to see an amigo leave New York, I will admit that that is not exactly what all his dear friends were thinking about upon entering the red-lighted lounge and picking up a copy of the two books that were to be celebrated... They were thinking more along the lines of:

"How in the hell does our darling friend, Michael, know Nina Hartley?

If you are not familiar with Nina (as I was not when I arrived), I will explain that she is allegedly one of the top great porn stars of our millenium. She's written a variety of books all circling around the subject of sex and the one being celebrated that night was no different: Nina Hartley's Guide to Total Sex. Needless to say, it was an evening filled with very interesting conversation and plenty of mingling. Great to catch up with the man of the hour as well, and peek at his new book: Funny Ass Stories.

Saturday was spent brunching with a herd of friends in the Meatpacking at Paradou for what has now famously been dubbed "Champagne Campaign 2006". I was able to catch up with even more long lost buds while simultaneously witnessing what could quite possibley be the best flavored champange concoctions ever created. And those pomme frites, can't forget the pomme frites.

Once the last cheers was said, and the last song was played on the iPod (which our group did an excellent job of whinning to the waiters until we were permitted to just plug in our own music and raise the roof), we shimmied on back to mine where a full on dance party ensued.

I won't forget walking the cobblestone streets with A.Star back to my apartment though, it was a perfect fall day with perfect company. Manhattan really knows what its doing during times like these.

Today was spent lounging around having some girl talk, and tooling around the neighborhood with R.

Can't beat autumn in NY. Makes me feel so alive.
